Best ramp cards for Commander
2026-08-06
Ramp is the difference between casting your commander on turn three or turn six. Every Commander deck needs a ramp package tuned to its colors and speed.
Artifact ramp
Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Talismans and Signets are one-mana rocks. Lightning Greaves and Boots protect key creatures but are not mana — do not confuse them with ramp.
Chromatic Lantern fixes all colors in multicolor decks at a higher cost.
Land-based ramp
Green dominates: Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Farseek, Nature's Lore, Three Visits. Blue has high-cost land ramp; black has Rituals short-term.
Fetch lands plus shock lands are ramp-adjacent — they find the right colors on time.
How much ramp to run
Casual: 8–10 pieces. Mid power: 10–14. cEDH: 12–16 plus fast mana. Count mana dorks, rocks, land tutors and rituals together.
If you constantly miss land drops, add ramp before cutting lands — often you need both.
FAQ
- Is Sol Ring banned in Commander?
- No. Sol Ring is legal and one of the most-played cards in the format.
- What is the best green ramp spell?
- Cultivate and Kodama's Reach are the classic two-for-one land drops. One-mana dorks like Llanowar Elves are best for early pressure.
